Real numbers, published — because "it depends" helps nobody.
These are honest starting prices for the work itself. What you pay other companies — for your domain, your hosting, your software — is listed separately further down and never marked up.
Websites and applications.
Every project gets a fixed quote before work starts. These bands tell you which conversation you're having.
| What you need | Price | Typical time | What's included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter website | £450 – £750 | 1–2 weeks | 3–5 pages, mobile-first, contact form, basic SEO, deployed with SSL, 30 days aftercare |
| Professional business website | £900 – £1,800 | 2–4 weeks | 6–12 pages, catalogue or gallery, integrations, SEO and analytics setup, wording support |
| Website redesign | £600 – £1,400 | 2–3 weeks | Existing content rebuilt, redirects preserved, mobile fixed, faster loading |
| Custom web application | £2,500+ | Phased | Accounts, database, payments, admin area, automated tests. Quoted phase by phase |
| Day rate | £250 – £350 | Per day | For scoped pieces of work and ongoing retained days |
Some jobs have one price, not a range
The ranges here are for work where the scope genuinely varies — a five-page site and a twelve-page site are different jobs. Smaller, self-contained pieces of work are priced as a single figure instead, so you know the cost before you ask: a contact form is £95, a domain and SSL setup £145, a slow site fixed £165. Infrastructure and upkeep.
Available on their own, even if somebody else built your website.
| What you need | Price | Typical time | What's included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain, DNS & SSL setup | £120 – £250 | 1–2 days | Cloudflare DNS, working SSL, email routing, deployment |
| Migration to Cloudflare | £200 – £400 | 1–3 days | Moving an existing site to faster, safer infrastructure with no downtime |
| Maintenance — Essential | £30 – £45/mo | Rolling | Uptime monitoring, backups, updates, small text changes |
| Maintenance — Care | £75 – £150/mo | Rolling | The above plus an hour of changes each month and a short report |
Templates and licences.
Buy the design once and use it. Add installation if you'd rather not do it yourself.
| What you need | Price | Typical time | What's included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal licence | £39 | Instant | Use on one website of your own. Full source code and documentation |
| Commercial licence | £99 | Instant | Use on websites you build for paying clients |
| Extended licence | £299 | Instant | Include it inside a product you sell on |
| Installation service | £150 – £300 | 1–2 days | Deployed live on your domain with SSL and your content in place |
| Website restyle onto the theme | £245 | 3 days | Your existing pages (up to eight) rebuilt on the theme in your brand colours, an outline drawn first, live on your domain. Commercial licence included |
| Customisation | £250 – £900 | Quoted | Your branding, extra pages, additional features |
What you'll pay other companies.
These are not my fees. They go straight to the company providing them, at cost, and I set them up in your name wherever possible — so if you and I ever part ways, you keep everything.
| Cost | Typical amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | £8 – £15/year | Registered to you, not to me |
| Hosting | £0 – £15/month | Many small sites run free on Cloudflare. Busier sites need a paid tier |
| Business email | ~£5/user/month | Only if you want name@yourbusiness.co.uk mailboxes |
| Card payment fees | 1.5% + 20p | Stripe's standard UK card rate, charged per transaction |
| Stock photography | £0 – £100 | Only if you have no photos of your own |
| Advertising | Your choice | Paid straight to Google or Meta. I'd advise against it until the site is proven |
A word on free hosting
Free tiers are genuinely fine for many small business sites, and I'll tell you when yours is one of them rather than sell you hosting you don't need. The one real catch: most free tiers put the site to sleep when nobody's visiting, so the first person to arrive after a quiet spell can wait twenty seconds or more for a page. If people find you through search rather than knowing your name already, that's worth paying a few pounds a month to avoid.
The things people ask before they ask for a quote.
Why is there a range rather than one price?
Because a five-page site for a plumber and a five-page site with a booking system are different jobs. The range tells you roughly where you'll land; you get one fixed number before any work starts, and that number doesn't move unless you ask for something new.
Do you take a deposit?
Yes — 50% before work begins, the balance when the site goes live. For larger applications I split it across phases so you're never far ahead of what's been delivered.
What happens if I want changes later?
Two rounds of changes are included while we're building. After launch, small text edits are covered by a care plan, and anything bigger is quoted at my day rate before I start.
Do I own the website?
Yes. The code and the copyright transfer to you on final payment. There's no licence to keep paying and nothing that stops you taking it to another developer.
Are you VAT registered?
Not currently, so there's no VAT to add to these prices. If that changes I'll say so before quoting.
Why are you cheaper than an agency?
There's one of me and no office. You get the person who writes the code rather than an account manager relaying messages to a junior. The trade-off is honest: an agency can put five people on a deadline and I can't, so for very large or very urgent projects they may genuinely suit you better.
Want a number for your actual project?
Tell me what you need and I'll send back a fixed price and a timeline — usually within one working day.
